WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – Beam Central Vacuum Systems by Electrolux, the only central vacuums clinically proven to relieve allergies, have earned the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) Research Center’s “Green Approved” mark as products that can help their homes meet National Green Building Standards.
To earn the Green Approved mark, the NAHB Research Center required that the products submitted for recognition produce independent evidence that they improve energy efficiency, conserve resources, improve the indoor environment or contribute to sustainable development. Beam Central Vacuum Systems met the indoor environment test on two fronts. A University of California-Davis clinical study of allergy patients found their symptoms improved up to 61 percent when they used a Beam Central Vacuum System instead of a conventional vacuum to clean their homes. Also, installation of a Beam Central Vacuum System qualifies for a certification point under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes Program.
Section 902.5 of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-approved National Green Building Standards list a central vacuum system vented to the outside as an option that will earn five points toward meeting the Indoor Environmental Quality thresholds, which range from 36 points for Bronze Level certification to 140 points for Emerald Level certification. The five points allocated for central vacuums are more than any other optional indoor environmental quality improvement to a home.
“This designation will help builders and remodelers understand that installing a central vacuum system can create that healthier living environment that buyers demand,” says Larry Hartley, vice president of sales and marketing for Beam.”And it gives homeowners a valuable tool they can use to select products to install in their homes.”
